Qualifications, memberships and work background
Dr. Barry Rogers has a Doctorate in Health & Developmental Psychology from La Trobe University. He is registered with the Psychologists Registration Board of Victoria and is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS). Barry regularly attends professional development training provided by the APS and other training providers to inform his professional practice.
In addition to his private practice consultancy since 2002, Barry worked as a pastoral care coordinator, counsellor and psychologist in the university and schools sectors for over twenty years. He has also worked as a psychologist-researcher; and adjunct lecturer at Monash and other universities; with spiritual/faith communities, and in industry (engineering).
Approach to treatment and areas of specialty
Barry provides supportive and informed counselling with a skills development and mentoring focus to assist clients in managing, and engaging with personal, relational, and psychological health issues for increased wellbeing. Strengths are identified in sessions and built on to develop personal resilience.
Clients are provided with a range of resource sheets for further psycho-educational support and where appropriate, referred to other skilled allied health professionals as part of their therapeutic treatment.

- Mentoring support for teachers, students and parents
- Resilience: increasing self-esteem and assertiveness
- Motivational interviewing/MI support for behaviourial change, including addictions
- Psychological assessment for adults and students (Grades 3- Year 12)
- Work-related referrals for professional standards/professional boundary issues
While centering on Cognitive-Behavioural and Solution-Focussed therapy, Barry also uses Mindfulness practice; Positive Psychology; Acceptance & Commitment Therapy; Interpersonal & Family Therapy; and, narrative and attachment therapy approaches with clients.
Clients referred by their GP with a Medicare Care Plan can claim the Medicare rebate. And clients who have Extras cover with one of the major private health funds are eligible for rebates via their health fund.
As a new member of the Salus team, Barry’s contribution to clients’ wellbeing includes his extensive experience in working sensitively and caringly with adults, adolescents, and children from a wide range of work/study contexts and cultural backgrounds.
