Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Acupuncturist
Sally is a registered Doctor of TCM with an education that has spanned over a decade of full-time, intensive study to complete three applied science degree programs in addition to a medical internship in China.
The majority of Sally’s study was completed at RMIT University in Melbourne. RMIT is the only dual-degree program in Chinese medicine in Australia which emphasises the integrated approach of Western and Chinese medicine, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
Completing a Western Medical Science Degree with majors in anatomy and physiology has enabled Sally to have a concrete understanding of the disease processes important in any form of health practice.
Sally’s degree also incorporated many western medical diagnosis subjects to enable understanding of laboratory pathology, radiology, neurology and traumatic injury.
Sally’s medical internship was undertaken at the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Nanjing, China. During the medical internship Sally completed hospital rotations in the departments of gynaecology, paediatrics, traumatology, dermatology, internal medicine, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine and Acupuncture.
Sally is a highly experienced TCM practitioner with over five years experience treating women for a range of concerns including, her specialist area, that of women’s reproductive health. Sally has extensive experience in these specialist areas and treats, menstrual concerns, endometriosis, infertility, IVF and pregnancy support.
Research has shown that Acupuncture can greatly enhance the success of assisted reproductive procedures including Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI), In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), and IVF with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). Acupuncture has been shown to improve the success of conception by 65%.
The benefits of Acupuncture will specifically increase the response and success of all forms of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART). Studies have focused on how Acupuncture can increase the blood flow in the uterus and ovaries creating a more suitable and fertile environment for mature follicles to both develop and implant. Additionally, treating the male partner at the same time will increase the sperm count and motility/morphology rates.
Leading up to the transfer research has shown that Acupuncture produces a greater number of follicles in poor responders, greater blood flow to the uterus improving the endometrial lining, and reduces stress and tension (often shown to decrease fertility).
Putting this all together Acupuncture can dramatically increase fertility success and within a shorter time period.
Most women will require a series of ongoing treatments to gain all the benefits that TCM and Acupuncture will provide. The recommended treatment schedule is based upon individual needs and can vary.
In most instances the recommendation is to begin Acupuncture at 1 - 2 months prior to the IVF cycle. As the embryo transfer gets closer, the frequency of visits will increase. Sally is available at all times to discuss the personal applications of her treatment programs.
